One of the services we can offer to children from Islington is called Short Breaks, a government scheme funded through the local authority. Islington Council will have carried out an assessment and decided if your child is eligible for this programme. Families should be informed by the council if they are eligible. You can get support from various Islington services or organisations to access Short Breaks and Palace can help you as well.
If you live in Islington and your child hasn’t been assessed or you think they may be entitled to Short Breaks, you can contact the Short Breaks Manager on 020 7527 8611.
You can choose how your child uses their allocation of Short Breaks funding – options include Holiday Schemes, One-to-One Support, and After School or Weekend Clubs. At Palace we provide activities for up to 20 children a day between the ages of 2 and 12 in the holidays and occasional after school sessions we call Mini Play Breaks.
Our half-term and summer holiday schemes run in each of the holidays throughout the year – a week at Easter, 4 weeks in the summer, and one week in each of the Half terms. Your child can attend a Short Breaks in any of these holidays for an amount of time agreed between parents/carers, Palace and Islington.
Our holiday play schemes are run by our own Palace staff and include arts and crafts, music and singing, games, local trips and free play, all within a structured environment.
As experienced play workers we get to know the children quickly, look at their strengths and find out what they like. We aim to develop their strengths and support their learning in an atmosphere of play and fun. We work to encourage children’s communication and find fun ways to practise making choices and use social skills such as turn taking, waiting and sharing. Above all, we have fun!
Mini Play Breaks
These 2 hours personalised play sessions are arranged directly with parents/carers, to suit the time and day required. Our experienced play workers will tailor lots of fun activities to meet your child’s needs and interests.
